POSITION TITLE: Member Service Associate
REPORTS TO: Membership Director
GENERAL FUNCTION: Provide superior service to YMCA members and guests by having a clear knowledge of YMCA programs and services.
MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS & EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
1. One year experience in customer service and/or sales.
2. Experience handling money.
3. Experience and proficiency with computers and office equipment.
4. Must be at least 19 years of age.
5. Must have reliable means of transportation.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Visual, auditory, and verbal ability to communicate effectively with people and monitor property and activity.
2. Ability to perform light physical activity,
3. Must be able to standing for long periods of time and sit periodically
4. Must be able to lift a minimum of 35 pounds.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide excellent service by having a solid knowledge of YMCA programs, services and systems.
-The red “Staff shirt,” black pants, and a name badge must be worn while working at the front desk.
-Maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times.
-Follow directions, be flexible and enjoy working with people of all ages and backgrounds.
-Maintain a safe and clean facility at all times.
- Provide excellent customer service through the following:
- Exceed the expectations of the members through fast and knowledgeable service.
- Greet and become familiar with program participants and members by name.
- Recognize member departures with a friendly salutation (“have a good day” etc.).
- Review electronic notes in the YMCA software (DAXCO) and in the printed Communications binder prior to shift.
- Handle all questions and concerns in a courteous, professional manner.
- Gather feedback from members and share with supervisor to help improve service.
- Have a comprehensive knowledge of all programs and facilities.
- Maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times.
- Be prepared at all times to greet and help members.
- Assist with membership retention activities (reminder calls, expired credit card calls, etc)
- Sell the YMCA’s value as a not-for-profit, family-oriented wellness center not “just a healthclub”
- Provide assistance and participate as requested in the annual Community Campaign.
Quickly Develop comprehensive knowledge of the following YMCA systems:
- Membership and programs
- Retention systems: tracking of tours and tour conversion (sales)
- Financial procedures: money handling, registrations and sales, ensuring accuracy
- Opening and closing procedures
- Emergency procedures: being certified as appropriate and prepared to implement in case of an emergency (familiarized with facility emergency plan, etc.)
Perform general duties as needed:
- Service center duties: greet and check in members and program participants, laundry, racquetball reservations, agency check-in verifications, check-out equipment and follow lost and found procedures- Front desk duties: answer phones, filing, other clerical duties and laundry duties as needed
- Refrain from social networking site/non-business-related internet usage while on the clock and from cellular phone usage while on the clock (you are not allowed to have your phone in your physical possession while on duty)
- We are proud that you are a member of our team and, on or off the clock, you representative the YMCA to our community. Use care when making comments on social networking sites about the Y.
- Attending mandatory staff meetings
- Providing feedback and suggestions to improve services and/or systems.
Constantly improve the Member experience by:
Performing custodial duties as needed without prompting, including:
- Picking up trash in the hallways, sidewalks, grass and the YMCA program areas
- Assisting janitorial staff in mopping floors, wiping counters, cleaning windows, filling copy and paper supplies and cleaning lobby area as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Position: Lifeguard
Opportunity to be a part of a fast growing Aquatics program at the St. Cloud Area Family YMCA
Job Description:
Maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, on the deck, and surrounding areas. Positively communicate information on pool rules and YMCA programs.
Education and Experience:
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Current Lifeguarding and CPR/AED for the PR certifications required.
- Must have the ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness, and possesses mature judgment and sound decision making.
- Ability to relate to people in a positive, but firm manner must be observant, safety conscious and able to react calmly and quickly in an emergency.
- Must have the ability to effectively communicate information on aquatics and other YMCA programs to members and participants.
General Functions:
- Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, on deck and surrounding areas. Prevents accidents by maintaining constant observation of the pool area, enforcing health and safety rules and maintaining emergency readiness.
- Responds to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as require.
- Maintains effective relationships with the members, participants and other staff. Develops rapport with members.
- Conveys basic information on YMCA programs and schedules to members, and as appropriate, refers members to other programs and/or staff.
- Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
- Takes pool attendance and maintains related records as required.
- Performs routine maintenance of the pool and surrounding areas, to ensure cleanliness.
- Checks pool and rescue equipment and promptly reports any problems.
- Sets up and store equipment for recreational swims and assist instructors with class set up.
Compensation:
· $8.25 per hour based on experience
· Must be available to work some weekends.

Position: Swim Instructor
Opportunity to be a part of a fast growing Aquatics program at the St. Cloud Area Family YMCA
Job Description:
Under the direction of the Aquatics Coordinator the Swimming lesson instructor will conduct classes that comply with the standards of the certification held as well as the YMCA’s mission and teaching philosophy.
Qualifications:
· Must be 16 years of age or older Must be certified in current CPR-PR, AED, First Aid. WSI or YMCA certification Preferable.
· Must be able to demonstrate the four core values of the YMCA as well as the mission and philosophy of YMCA swimming lessons.
· A swimming lesson instructor must be able to communicate verbally and project a voice across a pool in loud situations while performing the essential skills of teaching in water that is between 80-90 degrees.
· Ability to motivate others in the areas of self-awareness and self-confidence through swimming and aquatics.
· Ability to motivate and effectively communicate with members, parents and students.
· Exercises mature judgments and sound decision-making.
· Ability to effectively communicate information on YMCA Aquatics and other YMCA programs.
General Functions:
- Instructs swimming lessons as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
- Develops positive relationships with participants and provides motivational support and guidance.
- Encourages member and parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
- Conveys basic information about aquatics programs and schedules and refers members and participants to other programs or staff member.
· Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.).
· Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
· Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
· Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
· Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment. Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.

Position: Group Exercise Instructor – Part Time
Job Description
1. Job Summary – Under the direction of the Health & Wellness Director, the Group Exercise
Instructor is responsible for teaching group exercise classes, such as Cycling, Step, Pilates,
High/Low impact, Kickboxing and/or Strength/Toning. It is important this department remains
current and address the daily issues directly and indirectly impacting the physical mental and
spiritual health of the individual or family.
2. Essential Job Functions
- Give direct leadership and instruction to fitness classes; this is not your workout but for our members.
- Provide safe and effective workouts, for the general population and for health seekers as well as the advanced.
- Interacting with members before/after each class. Obtain member input for future classes.
- Encourage member participation in other group fitness classes.
- Keep studio clean, assuring all equipment is put away in the proper place at the end of each class.
- Be responsible for all scheduled classes and, if necessary, follow the appropriate substitution procedures.
- Keep all certifications and skills current.
3. This position reports to the Health & Wellness Director who reports to the Executive Director.
4. Qualifications
- High school diploma (or GED equivalent) required.
- Experience and/or knowledge in teaching group exercise classes.
- Nationally recognized Group Exercise Certification such as YMCA of the USA, ACE, AFAA, ACSM or NETA.
- College Degree or be working towards a B.S. or B.A. in a health related field preferred.
- CPR/First Aid/AED and Oxygen
- Excellent customer service and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work with all age groups and ability levels
5. Physical Demands – Perform all aspects of teaching a group exercise class.

Position: Fitness Coach – Part Time
Job Description
1. Job Summary – Fitness Coaches are responsible for the activity in the Fitness Center. They
provide excellent customer service in a safe, enjoyable and positive atmosphere that promotes
member wellness in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
2. Essential Job Functions
- Provide members with Fitness Coaching sessions – intake session, goal setting, introduction to equipment, exercise plan, etc.
- Build relationships with members – connecting them to the YMCA.
- Communicate and enforce policies and guidelines for the Fitness Center along with keeping this area safe, clean and functional.
- Adhere to all YMCA guidelines and expectations.
3. This position reports to the Health & Wellness Director who reports to the Executive Director.
4. Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in (or working toward) Health/Exercise Science or related field
- CPR/First Aid/AED and Oxygen
- Excellent customer service and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work with all age groups and ability levels
5. Physical Demands – Perform all aspects of the position, including but not limited to walking, standing for long periods of time, bending, reaching and lifting up to 50 pounds.
